CRISPR/Cas and TurboKnockout: Technologies for Rapid Generation of Knockout/Knockin Mouse Models
While the generation of transgenic mouse and rat models clearly provides invaluable insights into human disease, the process of generating transgenic animals is often complicated, time-consuming and costly. In this presentation, Dr. Quyang will briefly review the traditional pronuclear injection based transgenics and ES cell homologous recombination based gene targeting, and go over the recently developed CRISPR genome editing technology, with an emphasis on the pros and cons of each technology and their applications. He will then introduce TurboKnockout, the newest ES-cell based gene targeting technology which allows the generation of conditional knockout/knockin mouse models in as fast as 6 months, 4-6 months shorter than the standard approach. Lastly, Dr. Quyang will highlight a novel online tool called VectorBuilder, which promises to revolutionize the way DNA vector cloning is done.
